Rita Mulcahy has lost her battle with breast cancer

by Elizabeth on 22/05/2010

I’ve just heard the sad news that last week Rita Mulcahy, Founder of RMC Project Management, passed away after a five-year battle with breast cancer.  You can read her short obituary on the RMC website.

I gave away one of Rita’s books last summer and it was perhaps the most popular giveaway I have ever done, which is testament to her unique style and ability to inspire learners.  She was a well-known and popular figure in project management and I’m sure she will be missed.

Thanks for sharing your reflection on Rita and her work. I just visited RMC site for the first time and will definitely look for her books and maybe a class too! The work Rita did in her last 5 years was both amazing and moved me, thanks for adding it to your blog! Marla

I was very sad to hear that.
Rita’s books were my insipiration, gaining deeper knowledge about project management, yet having fun.
Her books are the one who followed me getting my PMP and doing the project management features definition for our company’s service.
The Project Managment discipline and the entire professional sector, in general, has lost one of the good ones.

May your soul rest in peace.

I was hoping this is one big mistake, but alas, the news are correct. Never met her but admired her professionalism through her books and writing. On her passing at such a young age we should all remember her great personal and professional achievements

It is indeed a big loss. She will be alive through her works

Interestingly, the announcement is no longer on the site. I just read the news of her passing via PHUB but couldn’t confirm through the site.
Trying to ascertain this is really true… if so.. my condolences to her family and extended community.

Shrikant, you are right, it has gone from the RMC site. However, you can read the obituary from the Star Tribune (Minneapolis) here.

I am sad to hear this news.

All what I want to say is that , Rita tought me how to start my Project Management career. And I will not forget her favor in that.

I have to “ditto” Anca’s comment. Itook 24 weeks of college prep classes for th ePMP but when it came down to the wire to go take the exam, it was Rita’s book that set me straight, gave me confidence, and in a big way was responsible for the fact that I am a PMP today! God Bless.

I’m really felt very sad for loosing her, She helped me and my team to pass the PMP exam and other important things in the project management world. God bless her soul in peace. All the project managers from Egypt till Gulf loves her so much even without seeing her or iteract with her, Her books will live and her support will be there from heaven.

We have lost a brain in the Project Management profession and practice. She will certain remain one of the greatest Project management guru of all times. In the circle of project management circle, she has left footprint. We all would always remember her.

    May her soul rest peace.

I was telling a friend about Rita, and when I googled her name I discovered she passed away 6 months ago. Speechless.
