It’s nice to see that someone is doing something to help out of work project managers. ESI International have announced a $500,000 scholarship programme for out-of-work technical professionals – if you are a US resident.
The scholarship funds are designed to cover the ‘majority’ of course fees (which is the cost of the course minus $250) and successful applications can choose up to three courses from ESI’s project management or business analysis curriculum.
“Despite the current economy, project management as a profession is expected to grow substantially in the next few years with an increasing demand worldwide in such project-intensive industries as manufacturing, pharmaceutical, construction and IT,” says John Elsey, President & CEO at ESI. “This program will allow professionals to keep up their skills in the industry to take advantage of these leading economic opportunities.”
As I said, it’s only for unemployed US citizens/permanent residents, but even so, I’m sure that covers plenty of people. And it’s available for funding classroom or online training.
If you don’t qualify, you still might find something valuable on the ESI career information and source page. It’s not the most comprehensive job hunting resource, but it’s a reasonable starting point.
The scholarship programme will run until the end of December 2009, or until funds have been exhausted. So get in quick!

@BethWalker_CFC Why are there so many women’s/gir’s guides to project management?

Hello, @ProjectplaceInt. I’ve replied back using Twitter to you and @BethWalker_CFC saying that I don’t think there are multiple girl’s guides to project management – I’m the original! I think that if you are seeing that a lot then it’s because people are re-tweeting my tweets or passing on links to my blog posts. I’m glad that people are commenting on Twitter about things I write, but you’ll probably find that there are multiple links to any one blog post. I hope that clears it up.
