PM Events Round-up

by Elizabeth on 9/05/2009

There’s a lot going on in the project management world right now, as we move into the summer there seem to be more and more events coming up.

The annual Lovelace lecture is next week (13 May), on the topic of ‘The Sins of IT Projects and why they can fail.’  It’s fully subscribed, but I’m going so you will be able to read more about it here or watch the video of the event on the BCS website.

Have you registered for PMXPO?  It’s free, it’s virtual and you get the quality giveaways without having to traipse around all the trade show booths.  No free pens, though.  It’s on Thursday (14 May) and there is still time to register.

PMI is hosting it’s EMEA Congress between 18-20 May in Amsterdam and Bas de Baar will be there representing the PMI New Media Council.  Unfortunately I have family events planned so I can’t make it but I’m hoping to attend the North America Congress in October: and we might even have Congress ribbons sorted by then.  I’m sure Bas will write up the event on his blog and if you are going, make sure to go to his Wednesday lecture on the use of social media in project management.

Another BCS happening: there are moves afoot to set up a new Business Change specialist group, with the inaugural ‘what are we doing’ meeting on 1 June.  Contact me for more details if you would like to attend.

Maven is running PRINCE2 for Girls again next month (22-26 June).  The first course was a great success and the delegates have got their results now – stonking, just as we would expect!  So if you are recertifying or want to learn the new revised PRINCE2 syllabus then this could be the course for you.

If you are in London (maybe for the Maven course), you should be already signed up for W-Tech, the long awaited recruitment, career development and networking event for women interested in IT, which is happening on 24 June (fingers crossed this time).  If you aren’t registered, sign up here.

And finally, curvy project managers rejoice!  As of today, M&S has backed down on its policy of a £2 supplement on bras over a DD cup.  A victory for people power, and a success for Busts for Justice and Beckie Williams.  And M&S are giving 25% off all bras until 25 May, so now is a great time to get shopping for something to go under that new summer suit.  Now, where’s my credit card…

Thanks for the PMXPO headsup. I’ll head over and wish Baas good luck on his upcoming lecture. It is a very current topic (all of my customers love to chat about where teamwork should end up with Twitter, Facebook, etc. at our disposal.
