I think there are plenty of good IT or general tech jobs, and some great employers where women are well represented and rewarded. I've never worked in an IT department - and I've worked in several - where I have felt unappreciated and I was given all the dead-end tasks. While I don't doubt that such organisations do exist, I maintain that the general view that IT is not a good place for women is a flawed perception. That wasn’t your decision, and it wasn’t mine either. I think there are plenty of good IT or general tech jobs, and some great employers where women are well represented and rewarded. Wait, what? Who says their perceptions are wrong? Maybe they just look at IT (or tech in general) and say, "Hmm...a job I'm qualified for...and where I'll have to constantly prove my competence, where I'll have to be twice as good to get half the credit, where I'll be underpaid, my contributions not recognized, given all the thankless, dead-end tasks...mmmaybe not." Mind you, that wasn't MY decision, but who could blame a young woman who came to such a conclusion?
