Carnival of Project Management #25

by Elizabeth on 1/03/2009

Woo!  This February/March 2009 edition is the 25th Carnival of Project Management and it feels like we should be celebrating this milestone.  So get yourself a full-fat Mocha Frappuccino, and start clicking some links.

Rich Maltzman, PMP presents Not yawning. Neither doing cartwheels. posted at Scope crêpe, which is a great snapshot summary of views on the forthcoming PMBOK revision. Wonder if anyone will do that (or show the same level of enthusiasm for) PRINCE2:2009?

Rich Maltzman, PMP also submitted this, and as it’s funny I’ll let him have two entries in the Carnival: Identify your Stakeholders: by Heineken posted at Scope crêpe, saying, “Don’t miss this funny, educational, and informative video about stakeholder identification – masquerading as a Heineken commercial.”

Simon Stapleton, who seems a bit desperate to be part of the Carnival, having submitted a ton of articles, wrote this: How To Stimulate a Constructive Performance Appraisal/Review | SimonStapleton.com posted at Career & Personal Development for CIOs, Technical Professionals and Self-Professed Geeks, saying, “Ah.. Your Performance Appraisal (or Review). A time for reflection on past performance and discussion about how to do better, with less. A time for exploring new avenues and ideas. It’s a time for creativity and construction the future with the art of the possible. Yes? No? Or is it a humdrum activity ‘done’ to you twice a year where you receive arbitrary scores for doing stuff?”

Andrew Rondeau presents another piece related to performance reviews, Now What Makes A Great Manager? posted at The GreatManagement Blog, saying, “How to go from an average Manager to a GREAT one…” Spelling error corrected, Andrew. And you only get one entry, despite putting forward three pieces.

CraigBrown presents Fear and panic posted at Better Projects, saying, “some thoughts on change management.” I’m bizarrely attracted to this image.

The lovely Cornelius Fichtner presents The EMO – The Latest Trend For PMOs posted at Cornelius Fichtner, PMP. I have written about that myself, here, although Cornelius got to talk to the man himself.

Richard Shelmerdine presents The importance of measuring metrics posted at Richard Shelmerdine – life views from a student of life. Yes, people, track your project benefits!

Mateusz Jasny presents Which project management certificate shall I choose – PMP vs PRINCE2 vs IPMA? – part 1 posted at PMIT.PL Blog. Interesting, and also check out the Feb 28th article which compares the certifications in tabular form.

Shamelle presents Leadership: 5 Facts Leadership Gurus Don’t Tell posted at Enhance Life. Freaking out isn’t an option? Pity.

John Gough presents The Age of the Train posted at iJournal, saying, “Looking back to a project which is now thirty years old, it would appear that the challenges and issues then, are still the same today.” Yes, they are! And the sandwiches haven’t changed much either.

A Friend [seriously? but then I read the site and the explanation and it kind of makes sense, for now] presents Of project signoff points posted at Literal Thinking, saying, “It is a common occurrence in a lot of project that signoff points for scope and time clash and overlap; and project managers often find themselves in situations where they feel the need to either compromise on time or on scope (or both). This article presents some signoff tactics project managers use to get past project signoff points.” Well, well. This could be a really interesting blog if they keep it up.

Annie Binns presents Annie Binns | Life in the Fun Lane » Blog Archive » The Empathy Experiment | Team Conflict Resolution posted at Annie Binns | Life in the Fun Lane, saying, “I wrote this last year, but recently found this blog carnival and thought it might be interesting for the next round.” Thanks, Annie – you’re in.

That concludes this edition.  Roll on #50!  Which will take twice as long as getting to #25 as I’m now only doing the Carnival bi-monthly.   Submit your blog article to the next edition of carnival of project management using my carnival submission form. Past posts and future hosts (that would be me, but step forward volunteers) can be found on  blog carnival index page.
