I can now understand how the people I met at Google had an unrelenting approach to work: coding is addictive. I got up this morning and started. I got dressed around 2.30pm and that’s only because I had only had two cups of tea and a mushroom all morning and I didn’t want to cook lunch in my pyjamas. So, here are the changes to A Girl’s Guide to Project Management:
- You can now subscribe to comments, should you want to.
- I have a very pretty category cloud, which I first saw in use on Simon Stapleton’s blog.
- Links to posts are no longer full of question marks and odd numbers, which should make searching for things easier.
- There’s a feedback tab. You can always email me with your thoughts, but now you can use the feedback tab to make suggestions and other people can vote on them.
- On individual post pages like this one you can see a list of other, related posts.
- I have fixed the video! Video has been down for a couple of weeks since Vidavee removed the service, but I have found another host in DivShare. So, if you missed the clip of me talking about closing projects, or my video diary of the PMI Global Congress in Denver, you can now watch them. Get a cup of tea first.
- And the site looks a bit different, wider, and the missing graphics on the archive, search and comments pages have been restored. Bet you didn’t realise they weren’t there. Anyway, it now looks lovely in Firefox. If you use IE, you take your chances.
So, why did I say it was “almost” complete? I spent a long time today working out how to add another column, and if you stopped by at any point between last night and around 4pm today all you would have seen was a design mess. I couldn’t get the code right but equally leaving it in a state was not an option.
Most times on a project you need a go/no go decision and for me it was 4pm. I deleted all the incorrect files, restored from back up, and made the easy changes. I’d still like a go at adding another column, but at the moment it’s with people more competent at CSS than me. I’m considering it ‘Phase 2′, and as any project manager will know, sometimes you don’t get round to ‘Phase 2′, sometimes it comes rushing up on you faster than you predicted. I’m not sure which one it will be, I’ll have to see if I can stomach any more fiddling!

- Redesign in progress! Apologies if you are browsing here this weekend. The site looks awful – especially if you are looking at it in Internet Explorer. Please bear...
