Upgrade weekend

by Elizabeth on 16/11/2008

Another weekend, another upgrade…  I’m now running WordPress 2.6.3, for those of you interested in those little details.  Hopefully this will correct the password problem, so if any of you had difficulty resetting your password (like me, when I was in Denver), that bug has now been corrected.

I also had a little play with the CSS, so if you’ve been on the site today and wondered why it looked a bit funny, I’ve been practicing, and not having a test environment I’ve been making changes directly into live.  I don’t recommend you do that in any of your projects!  Back to normal now though.  I know what’s possible, so when I get a bit more time I might make some revisions to the look and feel.  Don’t hold your breath – sounds like a holiday project to me!

I have been meaning to make this upgrade too. Is it possible to upgrade just the few files that the new version needs OR do I have to do a complete update, which is always scary? On a separate note, how do you do backups?

You could do just the few files that have changed, but I find that just as scary. At least knowing you have done a complete version you can back it all out easily, rather than having to remember which files you changed when.

The password problem I had while I was away in Denver made me realise this upgrade is worth it – I tried to post about my experiences but I couldn’t remember my password. I tried to reset it normally but the link it was sending back didn’t work. After scouring the forums I realised it wasn’t just me, it was a known bug. Glad it is fixed now (although I haven’t tested it yet)!

I use MyPHP to do database backups and then FileZilla for the rest. Good luck!
