Carnival of Project Management #22

by Elizabeth on 31/08/2008

Welcome to the August/September 2008 edition of carnival of project management.  There were over 30 entries; these are the articles I deemed to be most relevant and interesting to project managers.  If you submitted more than one blog post I chose my favourite.

Rich Maltzman, PMP presents Big Wheels Keep on Turnin’ posted at Scope crêpe. I enjoy reading about other people’s projects, and I count stakeholder engagement as one of my particular interests, so I thought this post was great.

Mitesh presents 10 Greatest Mistakes While Brainstorming posted at Invent Creativity. This is very attractively laid out (shame about the mis-spelling of ‘too’) and sensible advice.

GreatManagement presents What I Learned From Rebecca Thorman About Building Relationships posted at The GreatManagement Blog, saying, “Relationships can make or break your career. They can ensure you get promotion or actually scupper your chances.” I wasn’t sure whether to include this one, but actually a lot of the advice applies to managing stakeholders too, so here it is.

Craig Borysowich presents Project Planning Assumptions Checklist posted at Craig Borysowich. Don’t you hate working out the assumptions for your project documents? This post lists some common questions to ask yourself to ensure most of the bases are covered.

Kate Roth presents How to Run an Effective Meeting | kate roth posted at kate roth, saying, “this a post a wrote for people trying to make their meetings more effective.”

Shawn Driscoll presents 3 Leadership Traps posted at Shawn Driscoll.

Phil Higson presents Project Management Model – for when project management is not your day job! posted at What’s New On The Happy Manager, saying, “There are numerous, comprehensive project management models in use. When you are a busy manager and managing a project as well, then often what’s needed is a clear, simple process to follow. This article discusses the 4D model, ideal for managing projects even if you’re not a project manager!”

That concludes this edition. Submit your blog article to the next edition of carnival of project management using our carnival submission form. Past posts and future hosts can be found on ourblog carnival index page.
