I’ve been going through my emails after being away and I came across the FeedBlitz alert for Craig Brown’s blog post How was your Friday? So in answer to the question, here’s how it was:
9.30 Wake up
10.00 Breakfast on the balcony: Greek yoghurt and local honey, peach juice
10.30 Leave washing up for cleaner. Wander down to beach for a briefing on the day’s sailing races
11.00 Watch the sailors rig Lasers and Hobie 14’s, 16’s and Tigers and launch them into the bay for the races. It all looks like far too much hard work – retreat to the beach bar for some summer holiday reading
11.45 Think about recruiting another Business Analyst
11.46 Realise I’m thinking about work. Go back to reading Change of Heart by Jodi Picoult
1.00 Lunch, when my sailing buddies come off the water. Chick pea salad, Sprite
2.00 The dinghies leave for the afternoon races. My masseuse comes to tell me that she’s got to cancel my afternoon appointment as she’s not feeling well. It’s rescheduled for Saturday
2.45 Finish my book with a Greek coffee, which is not as nice as espresso and has an awful lot of sludge in the bottom of the tiny cup
3.00 Think about writing an abstract for a conference presentation
3.01 Realise I’m thinking about work. Decide I need a change of scenery and go to sit by the pool
4.30 Get changed for yoga
5.00 Yoga class starts
7.15 Yoga class finishes. I almost fell asleep during the Yoga Nidra at the end. Return mat to my room
7.30 Shower, get changed, spray myself with mosquito repellent
8.00 Meet friends at the beach bar for a drink before dinner
8.30 Twelve of us walk along the beach into Vassiliki for dinner at Stelios. Order the set menu for €15 per person. Turns out that is 48 meze dishes
10.00 It appears that all the vegetable dishes have arrived. Meat dishes start arriving, along with more carafes of local wine
11.45 Food ceases, wine continues. I have had a hard day doing nothing and decide to call it a night and turn in.
I found out on Saturday morning that most people didn’t get back from dinner until 3am. There was a room key lost on the beach on the short walk home – and when we were having breakfast the next morning one of our party was seen sneaking in wearing – shock horror! – the same clothes as the night before! Had she been out all night?
Unfortunately this Friday probably will involve emails, conference calls and London public transport… Time to plan my next holiday!
