Although my series on failing projects has come to an end (missed it? click on Failing Projects in the categories list), it seems like everywhere I look someone is talking about pear-shaped projects.
Luke Barrett, a senior business analyst from software company Thoughtworks, has been writing about how to stop software projects going wrong. Luke’s article is well thought through, but it’s a pity he doesn’t give the dates for the Standish Group research, to show if he used a recent version. Their ground-breaking CHAOS survey is now over a decade old and it still gets quoted as if it was published only yesterday. And I’m guilty of that too – even though there is plenty of more up-to-date research which concludes similar stuff.
Read Luke’s article here. Yes, it did take me a while to come across this as it was originally published in September. Two months old is better than ten years old though, don’t you think?
