Welcome to the June 25, 2007 edition of carnival of project management.
Laura Ricci presents The Ways We Sabotage Proposals (And Other Projects) posted at Laura’s Winning Ideas, saying, “Project Managers can sabotage their team when they only intended to push for productivity. Here are ways to maximize productivity but avoid problems.”
Pawel Brodzinski presents Successful Project Management posted at Software Project Management, saying, “How to define success in case of managing projects? Is just a completion (confirmed by the final acceptance) enough or you need something more?” I think you need something more. Like a method to track benefits, for example.
CA presents Business life lesson – Business is a team sport posted at Atlantic Canada’s Small Business Blog, saying, “I realize that I can only profit if my organization profits. And I will do whatever it takes to ensure the organization profits. That is my motivation.” This is an interesting take on teams.
Mike Harmon presents Home Based Business Tips – Three Reasons to Outsource Your Businesses Accounting Needs posted at Basic Accounting, saying, “You are probably already using a program like Quickbooks or Microsoft Money to balance your business books. But I will reveal 3 reasons why getting a good book-keeper will make a world of difference in your business.” If you’re a contract project manager, you might find this persuasive. But if you’re a contract project manager, you have probably got your finances sorted out anyway – or you wouldn’t be able to pay your mortgage!
Laura Young presents Is All Your Planning Really Self-Sabotage? posted at Dragon Slayer, saying, “Before you try one more organizational system, here are some thoughts worth considering.” Not new, but a good reminder of keeping on track. It’s written with relevance to your personal goals, but we all have personal projects too!
Penina Finger presents Use del.icio.us to organize projects posted at Penina Finger, saying, “del.icio.us is very popular, but it’s hard to find specific examples on how people are using it. I’ve compiled what I found, and added my own. Plus, I’ve created an experimental del.icio.us account as a showcase for the article.” I really do need to get to grips with how del.icio.us works – I never thought about using it for projects, so this is a great idea and a prompt for me to look into del.icio.us further!
Johan Idstam presents Stale software teams posted at Johan; thinking out loud..
Craig Brown presents Better requirements posted at Better Projects, saying, “A post on how the Marketing Ps can help with scope and requirements management.”
Alexandra Levit presents Feeling Overwhelmed? Speak Up. posted at Water Cooler Wisdom. For when the half-year deadlines start looming!
Rolf F. Katzenberger presents GTD: How to pin down the Next Action posted at Evomend – Master life. Repeatedly., saying, “Isn’t Getting Things Done (GTD) easy? Whether you’re at home, in the office, on the phone – in every context, you pull out the respective list of next actions, pick one and… …then you ponder what exactly you wanted yourself to do now. Obviously, the note wasn’t as precise as you had imagined. What went wrong? Why is it so difficult to phrase a Next Action?” Very useful, thanks Rolf!
And as I’m a big believer in cross-cultural understanding on global project teams, we finish this edition with Ashton’s article Product Management with Offshore Manufacturers: What Are You Sinking About?, Part I posted at Product Global.

Thanks for including my blog in your latest Carnival! I’ve just been invited by mr-wong to check out their del.icio.us-like link sharing site. Although I went ahead and registered, its features don’t really seem to be any more useful to me than what del.icio.us is already doing. I’ll post a little something if I get the nerve, and the time.
