Carnival of project management #6
Welcome to the February 4, 2007 edition of carnival of project management. I know it’s not exactly on the advertised day, I didn’t get the dates exactly right.
Pawel Brodzinski presents Software Project Management: Top 6 Problems with Risk Management posted at Software Project Management, saying, “Risk management looks quite easy in theory. However, quite often it works rather poorly after implementing within the team or project. Here are several reasons why it happens.” I like Pawel’s style: he’s a regular Carnival contributor and always has something relevant to add.
Murad Ali presents Time Management Made Easy posted at The New Business World. This isn’t radical, but it’s a good primer.
Now we have another submission about risk management. Rob Llewellyn presents IT Management Life; Risk management culture posted at Rob.
Moshe Gotesman presents Vendor Management – a Project within a Project posted at mosgot’s World of Software Project Management. An interesting take on how to manage suppliers. I hadn’t thought of it this way before.
Eric Brown presents Project Portfolio Management posted at Connecting Technology, Strategy and Execution. This is an interesting introduction, although I’d like to have seen how PPM relates to Programme Management. Perhaps this is something Eric will look at another time?
David presents The 7 Traits of Highly Effective Teams posted at Worldwide Success, saying, “As individuals, we can achieve many commendable goals. However, significant, large accomplishments that have a major impact in a company, a community, or the entire world, can only be achieved with a group of people. This article will explore success from a broader perspective, beyond the individual.” It’s not specifically about project teams, but you can apply it to them. However, David’s use “for the sake of simplicity and easier writing” of “the masculine form to refer to both genders” will alienate readers like me who believe he is not inclusive and there are other ways of incorporating women explicitly in texts. They might not be easier ways, but then going for the easy option all the time is just lazy, isn’t it? Feminist rant over.
That concludes this edition. Submit your blog article to the next edition of carnival of project management using our carnival submission form. Past posts and future hosts can be found on our blog carnival index page.
