There are 2,552 members in the Women in Project Management special interest group of the Project Management Institute, which, all credit to them, makes that group the 5th largest virtual group within the giant which is the PMI. And some of those members are men.
Frankly, I’m not surprised that the WiPM group is doing so well. Women gravitate towards networking and always have something useful to share. The latest WiPM newsletter, for example, has an excellent article about facing Q&A sessions after giving presentations which I have devoured in anticipation of my presentation on scope management Thursday evening.
It’s going to be a busy week for me, as I’m in the office just two days what with the bank holiday today and meetings in the UK Thursday and Friday. I’ve still got a lot of work to do on the Directory project, and my sponsor hasn’t really agreed with me that a July delivery date is not possible. At the moment my approach is to start development and see what happens (we are in week 3 of development now) and I am sincerely hoping the head-in-the-sand technique pays off. I think we can make the time up and deliver something, however random, in July to meet the arbitrary timeframe, and then deliver something useful later in the year. It’s a risky strategy but I don’t have any other ideas at the moment – suggestions welcome!
